Growing up, one of my first literary loves was poetry. There’s just something about the raw energy of artful words that speaks so intimately to me. So you bet I jumped at the chance to geek out with another poet!
“The poem stays the same, but we’re the ones that change. And so we bring a new perspective on it depending on the life stage that we’re in.”
My guest today is blogger and columnist Nicole Gulotta, author of the wonderful collection of recipes and poetry Eat This Poem. On today’s Coffee Break, Nicole and I discuss the unexpected joys of combining passions as well as the driving force behind her work.
“I actually had this fear—this very real fear—that if I did not write poetry, if I stopped, I would completely lose my ability to do it.”
Nicole also shares how she built her audience, unintentionally started a community of literary-minded travelers, and the secrets behind every good newsletter. But my favorite part of our conversation was just listening to her energy and love for her craft.
“I always look for an emotional thread. I want to feel something when I get to the end of a line.”
I hope my poetry-loving listeners get as jazzed as I did listening to this episode. And I hope the rest can glean some helpful tips about being creative on your own terms and building a readership. Be sure to stop by Nicole’s social medias and say thanks for the input. And as always, my friends, keep writing!
