If it's still in your mind, it is worth taking the risk. - Paulo Coelho

Worth it.

I had an idea in April 2013 for a podcast. It would help writers who struggled with busy lives to follow their dreams and make the time to write.

In April 2013, I didn’t have the time to create a podcast, let alone the knowledge I’d need (wait, what’s the difference between a dynamic and condenser mic?). So I jotted down some ideas and let them stew.

I thought a lot about my nonexistent podcast over the next year and a half. Weighed the costs and risks against the benefits — it would cost $X for a microphone and hosting, and I’d be giving up an evening a week to record, but wouldn’t it be awesome to learn something new and meet some amazing new people?

In the end, it took some nudging by my good friend Peder, but in January 2015 I recorded three introductory episodes and officially launched the Write Now podcast.

And OH MY GOSH, it was so worth it. I’ve found that I love podcasting, and I’ve discovered an amazing community of writers (yes, that includes you!).

Ideas tend to follow us, haunt us, chase us. At least, the ones that matter do.

Is there an idea for a story or novel or poem that you’ve been carrying around for weeks, months, or even years?

As Paulo Coelho said,

“If it is still in your mind, it is worth taking the risk.”

This week, I challenge you to take that risk. Start writing. See what happens.

I think you’ll find out that it’s worth the risk.
