If you don't like someone's story, write your own. - Chinua Achebe

Write your own story.

I think that a lot of writers start out this way: We read and read and read… and ultimately get frustrated that we’re limited to the role of participant. That we can’t make the characters behave in the way we want them to. That there should have been more mystery, or more romance, or a more complex villain.

And so we branch out and begin to write on our own. It might be wobbly at first, uncertain & even scary. It won’t be perfect. (It will never be perfect.)

But it’s OK, because we’re creating — and better yet, we’re creating something that is OURS. That was birthed from our brain and that we OWN (though perhaps we don’t control it). And how great is that?

It’s pretty great. And YOU are pretty great.

Remember that when you sit down to write today. When you sit down to tell that story that is uniquely your own. You’re chasing down your own possibilities and taking the very REINS OF FATE in your hands.

Now is that inspiring, or what?
